Barking at the Moon

Barking at the Moon

Actors working with Actors

All auditions now are self-test. We've noticed that quite a few actors we know - good, professional actors - were not auditioning, or were  struggling to book a job because they didn't know how to create and submit a decent self-test. Their expertise is in front of the camera or on the stage, not in film production. Some didn't know how to make their work look good on camera; others baulked at the technologies involved - filming, editing, submitting; some often found it hard to find a reader or the space to film in; and, others just didn't have any idea where to start: what they equipment they needed or how to improvise  with other gear to get the job done.

Barking at the Moon was conceived by two actors who teach screen acting professionally. We had invested in some film equipment along the way for our own self-tests and had started helping our fellow actors who were struggling with the self-test process, allowing them to submit their best work in the best way. Our actor friends would come to our place to film their self-tests and for help with whatever other parts of the self-testing process they needed assistance with - lighting, filming, directing, reading, editing, or submitting to casting. We were happy to step in and help them film and submit a well-performed, well-presented self-test.

With these humble, 'help-oriented' beginnings in mind, Barking at the Moon aim to provide a helpful, high-quality, low-cost, end-to-end service so actors can submit their best work for these now all important self-test auditions. We still film at ours, we use natural light when possible, and we are experienced in working with actors so they can create their best work on camera.

And to give back to our profession, we donate 5% of all our earnings to the Actor's Benevolent Fund.

We're not just Barking at the Moon
